The Solo Show speculatively follows the dazzling personality of Viola Kamp, an artist who already appeared in the gallery in 2011 ("Double"). Since then Viola Kamp changed appearance and areas of application several times. In the centrally presented video, the gallery owner describes her positioning in the art field and the reasons that have led to her international success. Her work follows a performative strategy in order to define its artistic role and identity. Contrary to the usual presentation formats typically seen in the arts, she plays a double role - a risky balancing act between a staged complicity and a cunning evasion. The exhibition explores these ideas about artistic role and identity in every direction: The fiction of an artist as a projection surface.
The work engages with the exhibition space in the form of site specific configurations and arrangements, space related glass objects depicting Viola Kamp in her studio as well as work samples created over the last years.
